Changing Perspectives

For those who have seen the Earth from space, and for the hundreds and perhaps thousands more who will, the experience most certainly changes your perspective. The things that we share in our world are far more valuable than those which divide us.”
~ Donald Williams

I wonder what it would feel like to have such an experience, to look back through the darkness of space at this earth on which we live. It certainly seems like a good reminder of the things that bind us together. We live in such a vast universe. What a lonely kind of existence it could be if we insist on focusing on the things that set us apart.

It’s not that we can’t be unique. Everyone is unique, after all. We all have our own stories, our own ideas, beliefs, histories, and dreams. But we are also all connected by those same things. We all dream, we all fear, we all have to face our own challenges as we try to move forward, and we all live on this planet together.

If a trip into space to see the earth from on the moon could really remind everyone of this, then I hope that it really is something that everyone will one day be able to do.
